Someone recently asked me, how did King Kaka get to the BET Awards? And that is when I realized that the purpose of King Kaka’s trip to the US might have been informed by the fact that King Kaka had been invited to attend the BET Awards that was happening in June 2025.
The 2025 and 25th BET Awards took place on June 9, 2025, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California. In attendance of this prestigious BET Award Ceremony was Kenyan rapper King Kaka also know as Rabbit or Kaka Sungura. King Kaka, whose real name is Kennedy Ombina, is also the founder of Kaka Empire and recently ventured into the film industry.
King Kaka, who is a fan as well as participant of Hip Hop culture, was visibly excited to attend the award ceremony where he got to watch performances from Lil Wayne, Ludacris and other major names in Hip Hop. Kenya currently does not have a premiere award ceremony that wards either Kenyan music or Hip hop. Last year Radio 254 held its first ever RadioTV254 awards while the Unkut Hip Hop Awards has for many years held Hip Hop events. Back in the day we had the Chaguo la Teenies awards and Groove awards for Kenyan gospel music. Pulse do have the annual pulse music video awards.
All in all we thank King Kaka for his efforts in promoting and pushing hip hop in Kenya. His latest musical project is a collaboration album between King Kaka and Scar Mkadinali. Each week King Kaka has released a video from the project. Besides music and films, King Kaka has a new cooking show he is sharing online that you can get to see him cook as well as interview guests putting him once again in different shoes than those we are used to. We are still waiting for Wajinga Nyinyi Part 2 and hope that it will not be a podcast as promised. King Kaka is a living legend, and it is great to see him diversify and open new doors while unlocking new heights. Few recall King Kaka calling for Sauti Sol to sign people before the launch of Sol Gen.
