This year marks 6 years since Radio 254 was founded. Radio 254 was registered as a nonprofit organization in April of 2020 before officially launching and beginning its operations on 1 October 2020. Since 2020, Radio 254 has grown from being an online radio station to being The Home of Kenyan music and content. Under its umbrella RADIO 254 now has in addition to the online radio station an online 24/7 TV station and streaming platform dedicated to Kenyan creatives known as PlayKE.
Many know Radio 254 as 254.radio due to the website and Instagram handle being 254.radio Others know Radio 254 as RADIO TV 254 due to the platform growing from just online radio to being both online radio and TV. In order to protect the different brands, Radio 254 has registered trademarks for RADIO 254, 254 RADIO, RADIO TV 254 and PlayKE which are all owned by Radio 254.
When Radio 254 was launched in 2020, it was the only radio station in the world that played 100% Kenyan music 24/7. As of 2026, Radio TV 254 remains the online radio and TV station that plays 100% Kenyan music and content. To hear what Kenyan music sounds like, listeners across the world can visit www.254.radio where they can experience exclusively Kenyan music and content 24/7 on either Radio 254 or RADIO TV 254.
As Radio 254 continues to grow, it is proud of the fact that since starting in October 2020, over 100 million listeners worldwide have tuned in to RADIO 254 to listen to Kenyan music. The focus over the next 4 years will be for Radio 254 to air more syndicated shows and podcasts from Kenyan creatives. Radio 254 will also be investing a majority of its time and resources into improving its visuals and building PlayKE which is a streaming partner for Kenyan creatives to help them be able to monetize and earn from their creative works. Thank you to everyone that has been a part of Radio 254’s journey thus far. The best is yet to come!
