Do You Know Any Female Kenyan Producers?

Every few years, the same question is asked, and honestly, it is getting tiring. In Kenya’s music industry, none of the Top music producers are female. Kenyan female producers exist, but because the music they make is not mainstream, nobody knows who they are, which is unfortunate.

In the years that Radio 254 has been in operation, we have met and interviewed countless Female producers from Kenya. Unfortunately, we seem to know about them but nobody else does. At Radio 254 we want to see more female producers be recognized for their work. That is why we think it is crucial that we not only appreciate the female producers that are out there but also seek to nurture and discover budding and upcoming Female producers out there because they exist, we just don’t know them yet. We also have to give flowers to Santuri East Africa who have done incredible training not just for females but producers in Kenya.

Below we have a list of Kenyan Female Producers that we know of but we are certain that there are more out there that we have missed. Considering that the music industry is heavily dependent on women who stream music, attend concerts, and support artists. We think that it is important that the music industry reciprocates the same to women and ensures that in the music industry, there are female producers, not because they are women but because they are talented. We also don’t think women producers need to make hits to be recognized.

As stated earlier in this article, we at Radio 254 think that it is important for the Kenyan music industry to recognize Kenyan Female Producers if for nothing else so that girls growing up know that there are female producers out there and that is something that they can become. Kenyan female producers are out there, you just have not looked hard enough to find them. If you research, you will find that not only are they there but also very talented.
